How to Link PAN Card with Aadhar Card?

There are several ways to link your PAN (Permanent Account Number) card with your Aadhar card:

Online through the Income Tax Department’s e-filing website (https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/). To do this, you will need to have a valid login on the website.

Through SMS by sending a message to 567678 or 56161 in the following format: “UIDPAN<12-digit Aadhaar><10-digit PAN>”

By visiting a PAN service center. You can find the nearest PAN service center by visiting the National Securities Depository Limited’s (NSDL) website (https://www.nsdl.co.in/) or the UTI Infrastructure Technology And Services Limited’s (UTIITSL) website (https://www.utiitsl.com/).

By visiting a Bank branch. Many banks offer the service of linking PAN and Aadhar at their branches.

It is important to note that you will need to have your mobile number registered with both your PAN and Aadhar to be able to link the two online or through SMS. If you do not have a registered mobile number, you will need to visit a PAN service center or a bank branch to link your PAN and Aadhar.

PAN-Aadhar Linking Deadline

The deadline for linking PAN with Aadhar has been extended multiple times by the government of India. As of now, the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhar is 31st March, 2023.

It is mandatory to link your PAN with your Aadhar if you are a taxpayer in India, as per the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961 and the Finance Act, 2017. You will need to link your PAN with your Aadhar in order to file your income tax returns and to avail various government services.

  • Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number and click on the “Link Now” button.
  • If your PAN and Aadhar are successfully linked, it will display a message saying “Aadhaar is already linked to PAN”.

Through SMS:

  • Send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 in the following format: “UIDAI<12-digit Aadhaar number><4-digit security code>”
  • You will receive an SMS with the linking status of your PAN and Aadhar.

By visiting the NSDL or UTIITSL website:

  • Visit the National Securities Depository Limited’s (NSDL) website (https://www.nsdl.co.in/) or the UTI Infrastructure Technology And Services Limited’s (UTIITSL) website (https://www.utiitsl.com/).
  • Click on the “Check PAN-Aadhaar Linking Status” option.
  • Enter your PAN and Aadhar number and click on the “Submit” button.
  • The website will display the linking status of your PAN and Aadhar.

Process to Link PAN Card with Aadhar with Penalty

The procedure to link the PAN Card with the Aadhar with a penalty is mentioned below:

  • Visit https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal.
  • Under the ‘Quick Links’ section, you will find the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option, click on it.
  • On the next page, enter your name, mobile number, Aadhaar number, and PAN.
  • Verify the information that is provided by clicking on the ‘I validate my Aadhar Details’ option.
  • Click on ‘Continue’.
  • You will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and click on ‘Validate’.
  • Once the penalty is paid, the process of linking the PAN and Aadhar will be complete.
