During the last decade, the Aadhaar number has emerged as a unique identity proof for the citizens of India. Aadhaar number is being used by people to avail many government schemes and services.
Citizens who were issued their Aadhaar Card 10 years ago and who have not updated their Aadhaar Card even once in these 10 years thereafter, such Aadhaar Card holders are required to update their documents It is being advised to do.

Ministry of Electronics and IT cleared the confusion
In this whole matter, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology as well as UIDAI have issued information saying that it is not mandatory to update the Aadhaar card for all the citizens of the country.
The Unique Identification Authority of India i.e. UIDAI had earlier issued a press release saying that it is urging the citizens of the country to update their documents and is also encouraging them to do so. It has also been clearly stated in the recently issued gazette notification that the citizens of the country can ‘do so’ i.e. update their Aadhaar card on completion of every 10 years.

By keeping the documents related to ‘Aadhaar’ updated, people get convenience in many important works. Keeping the documents up-to-date also enables better service delivery and also helps in making accurate authentication possible. UIDAI has always encouraged the citizens of the country to update their documents and this gazette notification is another important step in that direction.
